Paris Olympics: Afghanistan’s Samim Faizad defeated by Austrian opponent

Afghanistan’s judoka Mohammad Samim Faizad was defeated by his Austrian opponent, Wachid Borchashvili, in Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

Faizad competed in the under-81 kg category and faced Borchashvili in four rounds.

In the final round, Faizad suffered a leg injury and was defeated by an ippon. Borchashvili ultimately won the match with 11 points.

Despite the loss, Faizad expressed pride in participating in the Olympics, calling it an achievement. He remains hopeful for better results in future competitions.

Afghanistan is represented at the Paris Olympics by Fahim Anwari in swimming, Kimia Yousufi in women’s athletics, Mohammad Samim Faizad in judo, Fariba Hashemi in cycling, Shah Mahmood Noorzehi in men’s athletics, and Yulduz Hashemi in cycling.

Additionally, five other Afghan athletes are participating as part of the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Team.
