Unidentified drones flew overnight over several districts of Panjshir province north of Kabul, five local sources said.

Residents said the drones were observed over the districts of Shutul, Anaba, Rokha and Dara, as well as above Bazarak, the provincial capital.

“One time was not the only time – the unmanned aircraft patrolled several times,” a resident of Rokha district told Amu TV.

It was not immediately clear who operated the drones or why they were deployed. Taliban have not commented on the reports.

Panjshir, a mountainous province north of Kabul, has seen repeated reports of drone activity in recent years. Local sources have previously said unmanned aircraft have also been spotted over other parts of the country.

Last year, as reports of increased drone flights emerged, Taliban officials accused the United States of violating Afghanistan’s airspace, an allegation Washington has not publicly addressed.
