As the deportation of immigrants continue, figures by the Taliban’s commission for refugees show that Pakistan and Iran deported 3,401 migrants on Thursday, Dec. 25.

The commission the returnees included 633 families.

It added that a further 904 families, or 5,045 people, were transferred to their home provinces, while 776 families received humanitarian assistance.

The commission said it also distributed 709 SIM cards to returnees and provided cash assistance totalling 5.7 million afghanis ($86,000).

Afghanistan has seen a sharp increase in returns in recent months as Pakistan and Iran intensify efforts to expel undocumented migrants, forcing large numbers of Afghans to leave.

According to UNICEF, more than 2.6 million people returned to Afghanistan in 2025 alone, many of them children. The UN agency has warned that returnees face shortages of basic supplies and worsening drought conditions, and said it is providing hygiene kits and other assistance to help vulnerable families cope.
