Taliban forces “severely” beat a woman at a checkpoint in Badakhshan province in the northeast of the country on Sunday, local sources told Amu TV.
According to the sources, the incident occurred on the Badakhshan–Takhar road, where Taliban fighters stopped a family traveling by car. During a body search, they reportedly ordered the women to remove their veils.
One of the women protested, prompting Taliban officers to assault her. She was later taken to a hospital for treatment, the sources said. Photos obtained by Amu show visible injuries on her body.
Since regaining power in 2021, the Taliban have imposed sweeping restrictions on women, which UN human rights experts have described as a form of “gender apartheid.”
The Afghan Women’s Justice Movement condemned the incident in a statement, saying the Taliban are not only stripping women of basic freedoms but also using physical and psychological violence to silence any form of dissent.
The group said such actions constitute a clear violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
