Taliban conducted an “emirate knowledge” exam for hundreds of participants in the northern provinces of Jawzjan and Balkh on Sunday, according to a Taliban official.
Saifuddin Mutasim, head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Jawzjan, told Amu that the test included questions from the book “The History of the Islamic Emirate”.
Of the 1,000 people who registered for the exam in Jawzjan, around 700 participated, he said.
Mutasim also announced plans for another exam based on the book Haqq-ul-Mubeen, aimed at “reforming the minds of the youth.”
The book, he said, focuses on topics related to Islam and the Hanafi school of thought.
In addition, Mutasim noted that an upcoming exam based on the book The Army of Satan would be held to “correct the beliefs” of individuals.
The exams come amid continued restrictions on education for girls and women under Taliban rule. Over the past three years, girls above sixth grade have been barred from attending school, and women have been prohibited from attending universities or taking part in university entrance exams.
