A traffic accident in central Ghor province on Monday resulted in the deaths of a woman and a child, according to a Taliban statement.
The incident occurred when a minivan overturned. Five others were wounded injured in the incident, the statement said.
The accident is part of a troubling trend in the country. According to statistics compiled by Amu, at least 70 people were killed and dozens injured in various traffic accidents across Afghanistan in July.
This marks a notable increase in traffic-related fatalities. Officials from the Taliban-run Traffic Directorate have previously attributed the majority of these incidents to reckless driving and excessive speed.
