Wagner forces not actively involved in Ukraine conflict, Pentagon confirms

The Wagner mercenary group, which recently staged a brief armed mutiny in Russia, is not playing a significant role in military operations in Ukraine, according to the Pentagon. This statement comes more than two weeks after the group’s uprising.

Pentagon spokesperson Air Force Brigadier General Patrick Ryder stated, “At this time, we have not observed Wagner forces participating in any substantial capacity in support of combat operations in Ukraine.”

During Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Wagner fighters were known for their involvement in some of the most intense and bloodiest battles.

However, following the revolt that took place on June 23-24, the fighters were given options: they could either go into exile, join Russia’s regular armed forces, or return home.

On Wednesday, Russia’s defense ministry announced that Wagner was in the process of transferring its weapons to Russia’s regular forces.
