Gunmen storm police office in Pakistan’s Karachi

A group of gunmen stormed a police office in Karachi, Pakistan, on Friday evening, Pakistani media reported.

At least eight to 10 gunmen are involved in the attack that happens after a series of security incidents in Pakistan in recent weeks.

Police snipers took up positions near the station. Five hours after the attack, Pakistani media reported that two attackers were killed and seven people have been wounded.

The station houses offices of the city’s most senior police. Baloch said there could have been up to 30 police at the station at the time of the attack.

Overseas cricket players compete in the Pakistan Super League, and Karachi is one of three host cities. There is a game scheduled for Saturday, according to a Reuters report.

The police station is located along the route to the stadium and the hotel is a few kilometers away.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack that happens nearly 20 days after a deadly bombing at a mosque in Peshawar that killed at least 100 people.
