Flash floods triggered by torrential rains in the northeastern province of Badakhshan washed away the main road connecting Khash and Jurm districts and inflicted damage on local communities.
The floods, which began Wednesday afternoon, also damaged dozens of homes and hundreds of acres of farmland and orchards, local residents reported.
Other districts, including Tagab and Tishkan, also experienced flooding amid the recent wave of intense rainfall in the region.
Flash floods have become increasingly frequent across Afghanistan in recent years, devastating rural infrastructure and livelihoods.
Despite contributing minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, Afghanistan ranks among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, according to United Nations assessments.
