Ireland A defeat Afghanistan A by six wickets in Tri-Nation Series

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Ireland A registered their first victory in the Explore Afghanistan Tri-Nation Series 2025 on Monday, defeating Afghanistan A by six wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Chasing a target of 173, Ireland A reached 175 for four in just 22.3 overs. C. Carmichael anchored the chase with an unbeaten 75 off 63 deliveries, guiding his side to a comfortable win. Earlier, Afghanistan A were bowled out for 172 in 35.3 overs, with Sediq Atal scoring a determined 75 off 93 balls.

Gavin Hoey led the bowling attack for Ireland A, finishing with figures of four wickets for 24 runs, while Sharafuddin claimed two wickets for Afghanistan A.

The victory came after Afghanistan A had secured a seven-wicket win over Ireland A in their previous encounter on April 17.

The Explore Afghanistan Tri-Nation Series, featuring Afghanistan A, Sri Lanka A, and Ireland A, is being played in a round-robin format in Abu Dhabi. The tournament will conclude with a final between the top two teams on April 25.

The series forms part of a broader development initiative for Afghanistan A, who began their tour with a four-day match against Ireland A earlier this month. Following the conclusion of the one-day tournament, Afghanistan A are scheduled to play Sri Lanka A in another four-day match from April 29 to May 2.
