Afghanistan A defeats Ireland by 7 wickets in tri-nation series

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Afghanistan A secured a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Ireland Wolves in the third match of the Explore Afghanistan Tri-Nation Series in the UAE on Thursday.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Afghanistan A restricted Ireland A to 203 runs in 41 overs. Chasing a modest target, Afghanistan A reached 207 for 3 in just 33.1 overs. Darwish Rasooli scored 33 off 43 deliveries, while Ikram Alikhil contributed an unbeaten 25 off 20 balls to guide the team home with ease.

Ireland A struggled to build partnerships under sustained pressure from Afghanistan’s bowlers, despite some resilience from their middle order.

The Tri-Nation Series features Afghanistan A, Sri Lanka A, and Ireland A, with matches played in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament, structured in a round-robin format, began on April 13 and will conclude with a final between the top two teams on April 25.

The competition is part of a broader tour program for Afghanistan A, which began with a four-day match against Ireland A earlier this month. Following the One Day series, Afghanistan A are scheduled to meet Sri Lanka A in another four-day match from April 29 to May 2.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board said it views the series as a crucial platform for developing emerging talent and preparing future senior national team players.
