Taliban begin construction on new transportation terminal in eastern Kabul

Taliban officials on Sunday inaugurated the construction of a new transportation terminal in the Pul-e-Charkhi area of eastern Kabul, intended to organize the flow of small passenger vehicles and minivans traveling to eastern provinces.

According to the Taliban-run Ministry of Transport, the terminal is being developed to better regulate the daily movement of more than 2,000 vehicles—most carrying between 5 and 15 passengers—departing to various eastern destinations such as the provinces of Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar as well as the Torkham border crossing.

The terminal is being built in collaboration with a private company at an estimated cost of 162 million afghanis (approximately $2 million), with completion expected in 18 months.

Taliban officials said the site will include two main buildings and offer a range of amenities, including retail shops, a vehicle parking area, two mosques separately for men and women, rest facilities for drivers, and other support services for transport workers and passengers.

Sediqullah Abid, the Taliban deputy minister of transport, said the project will provide job opportunities to dozens of people.
