Fifty-three Afghan nationals were released from prisons in Pakistan and returned home, the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the detainees were freed on Monday and crossed into Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak border crossing.

The group included 45 individuals and eight members of a single family, the statement added.

The release comes amid increasing complaints from Afghan migrants in neighboring Pakistan and Iran, who accuse authorities in both countries of mistreatment. Many migrants report harsh treatment, including physical abuse and harassment by local police forces.

Both Pakistan and Iran have intensified deportation efforts over the past year, citing the lack of legal residency documents among Afghan migrants. Afghan nationals, however, claim that the deportations are often accompanied by violence and violations of their basic rights.

Pakistan, in particular, has faced criticism for continuing arrests and forced deportations of Afghan migrants, a campaign that has been ongoing for over a year.
