ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Three members of the Baloch Liberation Movement were killed in a military operation in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province, according to the region’s Counter-Terrorism Department. Pakistani authorities label the group as “terrorists.”
The operation took place in the Musa Khel area and involved the Balochistan Counter-Terrorism Department, border forces, and police, Pakistani media reported. The clash began when Pakistani forces encountered a group of 10 to 12 Baloch fighters and opened fire.
A spokesman for the Counter-Terrorism Department stated that five individuals managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Two suspects were arrested, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to a hospital. Weapons and ammunition were also seized, and those detained are now under investigation.
The operation comes amid a period of heightened violence in Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While the number of reported “terrorist” attacks decreased by 24 percent in September compared with the previous month, levels of violence and armed clashes remain high, according to Pakistani security reports.
In 2023, Pakistan recorded 1,524 deaths and 1,463 injuries in incidents linked to violence, including 789 attacks classified as “terrorism” and counter-terror operations.
