Unknown assailants attack doctor, his brother in Northern Afghanistan

MAIMANA, Afghanistan — Najibullah Noor Oghli, a general practitioner, and his brother were severely beaten and injured by unidentified assailants on Sunday in the city of Maimana, the center of northern Faryab Province, according to local sources.

The attack occurred inside Noor Oghli’s clinic on Herat Street in Maimana, shortly after noon.

Witnesses reported that four individuals carried out the assault, two of whom were apprehended by local residents.

The suspects, identified as brothers named Mehrab and Tawab, have been detained, sources said.

According to sources, the attackers allegedly intended to kill the doctor and his brother. The incident took place just 20 meters from a Taliban security checkpoint in the city.

Despite Taliban claims that they have ensured “complete security” for citizens, reports indicate a troubling rise in abductions and targeted violence under their rule.
