Pakistani minister urges international community for increased support for Afghan refugees

Amir Maqam, Pakistan’s Minister for States and Frontier Regions, has called on the international community to increase funding and resources to help address the needs of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Speaking at a meeting with the Afghan Refugees Commissioner’s office in Karachi, Maqam stressed the importance of effectively utilizing resources to meet the objectives of the Afghan refugee program.

“We hope to continue our cooperation to ensure the security and dignity of refugees within our borders,” he said.

In a prior meeting in July with the U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Maqam reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with the United States and the international community to find a lasting solution for Afghan refugees.

He emphasized the need for better conditions in Afghanistan to facilitate the safe return of refugees and called for increased U.S. aid to countries hosting Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, Afghan refugees in Pakistan have consistently expressed concerns about the difficulties they face.

In interviews with local media, many reported struggling with psychological stress and ongoing challenges in their daily lives.
