A landslide at a gold mine in Badakhshan’s Warduj district has claimed the lives of three workers, according to local reports.

The Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency reported that the workers were trapped under debris while working on a hillside that is part of the gold mining area.

The incident occurred in the villages of Khum Bahar and Do Dargi.

The landslide took place on Thursday afternoon, September 19, local media outlets confirmed.

Unregulated mining practices and the disregard for safety standards are cited as the primary causes of such incidents in the region.

This is not the first fatal accident in Badakhshan’s gold mines. Earlier this year, in May, two miners were killed in a similar landslide while working in the village of Zarandab in the district of Raghistan.
