Rasoul Mousavi, an advisor to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has criticized a policy prohibiting the sale of bread to Afghan refugees in the country.
On Friday, Mousavi posted an image on X showing a bakery sign that read, “Sale of bread to foreigners is prohibited.”
He directed his criticism toward Iran’s Attorney General, condemning the practice.
In his post, Mousavi referenced a famous quote from the 11th-century Persian mystic Abul-Hasan Kharaqani: “Whoever enters this house, give them bread, and do not ask about their faith. For anyone who is worthy of being in the presence of God is certainly worthy of receiving bread at Abul-Hasan’s table.” He added, “What has happened to us, with all our history, culture, literature, and mysticism, that we have come to this?”
Iran has been attempting to expel a portion of Afghan refugees, citing a lack of proper residency documents. This new policy is seen by many as part of a broader pressure campaign against Afghan migrants living in the country.
