In the latest instance of corporal punishment carried out by the Taliban, six men and one woman were publicly flogged on Saturday in a stadium in Ghor Province, according to a Taliban statement.
With these new cases, the total number of people flogged by the Taliban on Saturday alone has reached 11.
According to a statement, Taliban had invited civil and military employees under its administration to witness the punishment at the stadium in Chaghcharan, the provincial capital of Ghor.
After initially releasing a statement about the punishment, Taliban later removed it from the website of its Supreme Court.
According to the now-deleted statement, three of the individuals were accused of “running away from home and violating private boundaries,” while the other four faced charges of adultery. Each of the seven was sentenced to 39 lashes.
The statement also detailed that two of the individuals received three-year prison sentences, two others were sentenced to four years, and one person was given a one-year sentence. The woman involved was sentenced to four months in prison and received 39 lashes.
One other individual was sentenced to 29 lashes.
In separate incidents on the same day, the Taliban reportedly flogged four more people in the provinces of Bamiyan and Maidan Wardak.
Since regaining power in Afghanistan three years ago, the Taliban has subjected over 600 people in various provinces to public lashings.
