Taliban administers religious test to public employees

KABUL — The Taliban’s Ministry of Vice and Virtue administered a religious test to employees of several government agencies on Wednesday, sources confirmed.

According to officials within the ministry, participation in the test was mandatory for all government workers, and the questions were based on the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence. The officials also noted that followers of other sects were required to answer questions according to Hanafi doctrine.

The ministry has warned employees that failure to participate in the test could result in dismissal from their jobs.

This is not the first time the Taliban has required such a test. In recent months, the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has conducted similar examinations for employees of various government agencies, including the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Education, and the Kabul municipality.
