A women’s movement advocating for the welfare of Afghan women and children in a statement on Tuesday emphasized the importance of solidarity and collective action in response to the Taliban’s “regressive” policies towards women.
In its statement, the group called on all Afghan women to stand together and speak out against the oppressive measures.
“We urge all Afghan women to unite and raise their voices. Only through solidarity and resilience can we challenge the Taliban’s attempts to undo the progress that Afghan women have fought so hard to achieve,” the statement read.
The movement also expressed its support for protests against Taliban policies, sharing a video of a demonstration by the Women’s Council of the Resistance Front.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, the group notes, women’s freedoms and rights have been systematically stripped away.
“The Taliban have increasingly marginalized women, barring them from education, employment, and public life,” the statement added.
The advocacy group stressed that defending women’s rights is not only crucial for the well-being of women but also essential for the future of Afghanistan.
This statement comes as Human Rights Watch in a report on Mnoday described the situation as the “world’s largest women’s rights crisis.”
