Taliban in Farah marks World Breastfeeding Week without women

Local sources in Farah province in the west of the country reported that Taliban held a ceremony to mark World Breastfeeding Week but no woman was invited to attend.

A photo obtained by Amu News shows that all participants in the ceremony are men.

Typically, such events are held worldwide with women in attendance to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

In Farah, however, the ceremony featured speeches by Taliban health officials discussing the importance of breastfeeding and ways to improve infant nutrition, but no women were invited.

On Tuesday, the World Food Program announced that due to a lack of funding, 600,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Afghanistan would not receive assistance this summer. This number reflects those who were supported by the organization during the same period last year.
