Private pharmaceutical company launched in Kabul

A new private pharmaceutical company, Life Pearl, was launched in Kabul with an investment of $20 million on Thursday.

Officials from Life Pearl announced that the company has commenced operations with the production of approximately 50 types of medications.

During the inauguration ceremony, Abdul Bari Omar, the Taliban’s deputy minister of public health, stated that there are 77 pharmaceutical companies operating across Afghanistan.

Despite this development, Afghanistan remains heavily reliant on imported medications from neighboring countries and the region.

Many citizens have expressed concerns about the low quality and high cost of medications, citing significant challenges due to the lack of quality drugs available in local pharmacies.

These citizens report that the poor quality of available medications often forces patients to use higher doses for effective treatment.

Pharmacy owners and representatives from various pharmaceutical companies in the country also highlighted the significant taxes imposed by the Taliban, which they say present substantial challenges to their operations.
