The new round of polio vaccination campaign commenced on Monday across 23 provinces of the country.
The campaign, organized by the Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health will run for four days.
According to a statement from the ministry, nearly eight million children under the age of five are expected to be vaccinated during this period.
Last polio vaccination campaign was held early in June to cover 11.2 million children under the age of five.
Reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that the polio virus remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Previous WHO data show that only six cases of polio were reported in Afghanistan last year, all in remote areas of eastern Nangarhar province.
India, with a population of over one billion, has previously declared itself polio-free.
