Two children were injured in an explosion caused by unexploded ordnance in the eastern province of Kunar, the Taliban’s provincial police command said in a statement on Sunday.

The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the village of Gargo in Sheltan district of Kunar, the statement said.

Both children, who are about 10 years old, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, the statement said.

It added that an investigation into the incident is underway.

Unexploded ordnance remains a major threat in Afghanistan, particularly to children.

According to a UN quarterly report published in March, at least 26 civilians were killed and 69 injured by unexploded ordnance between November 2025 and Jan. 31, 2026. Most of the victims were children.
