The United Nations Security Council will hold a briefing on Afghanistan on Wednesday, Dec. 10, the UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said on Sunday.

UNAMA said the meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Kabul time at UN headquarters in New York and will coincide with International Human Rights Day.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to address the session, where representatives from UNAMA and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will brief the council on the country’s security situation, political developments and humanitarian needs.

The meeting comes as Afghanistan remains under sweeping restrictions on women and girls and faces one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with millions in need of aid amid a collapsing economy and harsh winter conditions.
