Women at ‘Industry Week’ expo in Kabul call for support to market their products

A group of entrepreneurs, including women, displayed their products at an expo of domestic goods which was held in Kabul to mark “Industry Week”.

The expo was convened to promote locally manufactured goods and to boost coordination between producers and exporters.

Women who attended the expo said that they do not have access to the local market.

“I ask authorities to support the market for our products and also, we want to find a way to [get to] international markets,” said Frozan Yaqubi, chairperson of Nil Frozan Sediqi Handicrafts Company.

She added that the exhibition booths for men and women were separate, but that men were able to view the women’s products.

Mari Gul, another woman who has a small business in Badakhshan province in north-east of Afghanistan, said that their aim is to first find a domestic market for their products, before looking for foreign markets.

“I hope that such expos are held often so that we can display our handicrafts and products and introduce them to other women,” she added.

Mari Gul said that she paid 5,000 Afs for the booth at the expo, which she said was costly. She added that they need support from relevant institutions.

Different products in industry, mines, agriculture, technology, electronics, plastic made products, food and handicrafts were on display at the expo.
