The Taliban’s interior ministry said Tuesday that 27 new districts will be established in 11 provinces across the country.
According to a statement, the new districts will be in Helmand, Farah, Baghlan, Faryab, Sar-e-pul, Ghor, Badghis, Paktika, Zabul, Nuristan, and Kandahar provinces.
This comes after the Taliban’s interior ministry put the idea to their chief minister, who then approved the notion.
Taliban officials said the ministry has been tasked with the job of determining boundaries and district centers with input from local residents.
The Taliban’s chief minister’s office has also notified all government structures to open offices in the new districts and the provincial governors have been ordered to abide by the chief minister’s decree.
No reasons for the decision were immediately given.The total number of districts across 34 provinces in Afghanistan will now be 448.
