A former member of the Afghan army was killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Hussainkhil area in Baghlan province last week, sources said on Sunday.
Saifullah Hussainkhil was a resident of Hussainkhil village in Baghlan province and had served in the Afghan army in northern Sar-e-Pul province under the republic government.
He was sitting outside his home with his cousin when he was attacked by unknown gunmen. Omid, his cousin, 19, was also killed in the incident, said their relatives.
Saifullah is survived by two young daughters.
Omid was the only breadwinner in his family, his relatives said, adding that he was the eldest son in the family and had recently graduated from school. He had a tailor shop in his area.
Their relatives said that Saifullah, the army member, had been at home for a few months after the fall of the previous government but returned to his job at the request of the Taliban. For a while, he had been under Taliban scrutiny, his relatives said.
“Saifullah had no enmity with anyone. He was only an enemy to the Taliban because they had chased him many times,” said a relative of Saifullah who wished not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Taliban announced a general amnesty after the fall of the previous government, but the group is accused of extrajudicial killings of former government officials and former security force members.
The Taliban has rejected UN findings about extrajudicial killings by the group.
