TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Wednesday that the US airstrike on the Fordow nuclear facility caused “serious and extensive” damage, rendering parts of the site inoperable.
Iranian state media quoted Araghchi as saying that while details about damage to other nuclear sites, including Natanz and Isfahan, were still being assessed, the Fordow facility sustained the most severe impact.
“The damage to nuclear installations has been very heavy and serious, and they appear to be unusable for now,” he said, adding that experts were still evaluating whether the facilities could be restored.
The United States launched coordinated strikes early Sunday, targeting Iran’s key nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. President Trump later claimed in a televised address that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been “completely destroyed.”
“We operated like the best team alongside the US military,” Trump said.
In response to the US strikes, Iranian forces launched several ballistic missiles at the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. US officials reported that most of the incoming projectiles were intercepted and caused no significant casualties.
The airstrikes mark a dramatic escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, reigniting fears of a broader regional conflict and raising questions about the future of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
