Elon Musk, the billionaire chief executive of Tesla and owner of the social media platform X, said he “regrets” some of his recent online comments about President Donald Trump, amid an increasingly public rift between the two men.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X.
The remark follows a sharp exchange between the two high-profile figures, which began after Musk described Trump’s recently passed tax bill as a “disgusting abomination.” The legislation, which includes significant tax breaks and increased defense spending, passed the House of Representatives last month and is currently under review in the Senate.
Trump responded by publicly stating that his relationship with Musk was effectively over and that he had no intention of reconciling.
The clash marks a dramatic turn in what was once a relatively cordial rapport. Musk, who has occasionally praised aspects of Trump’s presidency in the past, has become increasingly critical of the administration’s economic policies, particularly on spending and taxation.
