KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban administration has signed three railway agreements worth $7 million with Turkmenistan, a move aimed at expanding Afghanistan’s rail infrastructure and enhancing regional trade links, according to Taliban officials.
Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Taliban’s deputy minister of public works, finalized the agreements during a visit to Turkmenistan.
According to Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency, the projects include the expansion of the Herat-Torghundi railway station, the completion of a 10-kilometer section of the Aqina-Andkhoy railway, and a feasibility study for a proposed 55-kilometer railway line between Andkhoy and Sheberghan.
Last week, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced on social media that research and design work had commenced on a major 737.5-kilometer railway project linking Kandahar and Herat.
