A member of the Afghan army national army under the previous government, Muzamil Nijrabi, was killed in an attack by the Taliban in the Nijrab district of Kapisa province on Monday, two sources from the province said on Tuesday.
Muzamil left home for irrigating his agricultural lands in Arbabkhil village in Nijrab at around 10:30 pm on Monday when he was attacked by Taliban members from the 5th battalion stationed in Kapisa, the sources said, adding that he died on the way to the hospital.
His friends said he had got married three months ago.
Taliban did not comment on the incident.
Former military personnel and their fate
Thousands of former military personnel, specifically the army and NDS, the intelligence agency members, have left the country in the last 11 months following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, most of them to Iran. Many have returned to the country or have been deported from Iran, according to various sources interviewed on this matter.
UN in a report in January said it has received “credible allegations” that more than 100 former members of security forces and former members of the Afghan government have been killed under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. Taliban is suspected of the death of many of them, but the group has rejected the allegations and has said it has been investigating them.
In a new incident, Colonel Adina Mohammad Azad, a former recruitment officer for the 209 Shaheen Corps under the previous government, was arrested by the Taliban along with his son and three others when they were on the way to Baghlan on Sunday, July 17. The sources told Amu that the former army member was arrested in the Mekhak area on the Kabul-Baghlan highway and that there is no news on his fate.
Moreover, two sources said on Monday that the Taliban government has sent its so-called agents to at least two main border cities with Iran to “identify” former military personnel and members of the national resistance front (NRF) who either travel to Iran or return to the country, two sources aware of the matter said.
The sources said that the Taliban has sent one person to each district of the central provinces, mostly north of Kabul, including Panjshir, Kapisa and Parwan. Those who have been sent are close and reliable members of the Taliban, the sources said.
The sources said that the individuals are equipped with a mobile phone with the internet and a wanted list of former military personnel which has been prepared by their agents in villages.
Taliban has not commented on the allegations, but it has often rejected such incidents, insisting that a commission is working on the return of former government officials to the country.
The commission said that Colonel Jannat Gul Oryakhil, former head of the police training center under the republic government, returned to Kabul last Wednesday.
