Measles cases on the rise among children in Baghlan: Officials

Officials in Baghlan said that measles cases have increased among children in the northern province in the last three months as they have registered at least 1,400 cases of the disease during this period.

Measles is an acute viral respiratory illness. The main symptoms of the disease are cough and conjunctivitis which appear 14 days after a person is exposed to the virus.

“Of 1,400 children who were infected with the disease, three lost their lives and 14 are under treatment in Pul-e-Khumri Hospital,” said Shah Wali Ahmadzai, head of Pul-e-Khumri Hospital in the center of Baghlan.

He added that 25 patients have been sent to Kabul and Kunduz for treatment.

Officials said that measles cases have increased among children in recent months in the northern provinces of Baghlan, Kunduz and Badakhshan.
